Soil’s Embrace is an homage to my dog, Patrick, who died this fall (2022). Patrick taught me how profoundly I could connect with another species. He was a gentle and loving Pit Bull, contrary to the breed's unfair reputation. Part of my sentiment with this piece is to encourage wonder and respect for smaller creatures and reconsideration of cultural misrepresentations of dogs, microbes, plants, and the soil itself.
