Wool, cast glass, silver leaf, cotton, wood, paint, steel

70”  x 30” x 6”

I collected bark and branches for this piece while walking through a forest. After casting them in charcoal and glass I composed this gestural drawing, imagining the bark as strokes from a large brush and branches as charcoal lines. In archaeology much of what we know about the capability of ancient ancestors comes from studying what they were able to find and transport back to their homes, and creative purposes they found for those materials. This piece is constructed on a transparent wire mesh, increasing its reliance on its surroundings to alter the imagery it contains.
