At Daybreak

This body of work began with my excavation of a burial ground for our pets and farm animals on my families’ property in rural Pennsylvania. The skeleton I unearthed belongs to my horse. I brought the mold back to my studio in Brooklyn and made this cast, then beaded an intricate burial shroud. This horse was a member of our family for 20 years and she deserved the labor of those thousands of beads. Other works in this series contain symbolic references to the cosmos, ritual objects, familial bonds, biological cycles, the underworld and mysteries of the afterlife.
